International Trade

In 2024, the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce Convention & Tourism (C&T) department, along with its International Trade Committee (ITC), achieved significant milestones in advancing international relations and economic development. Noteworthy accomplishments included participation in the Routes Americas Conference in Bogota, Colombia, where the Hispano Chamber and C&T engaged with international carriers to attract more flights to the Albuquerque Sunport. The C&T department also prioritized strengthening ties with Mexico, the United States’ largest trading partner, through strategic memorandum of understandings (MOUs) with the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce, the largest chamber of commerce in Latin America, and the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce. A key initiative involved a visit by our ITC Chair, Rob Dzur, to Guadalajara to forge connections with the new leadership and explore collaborative opportunities at the Guadalajara Chamber’s international business incubator facilities. The C&T department successfully attracted internationally themed events to Albuquerque, such as the Agavelandia cultural exposition in September 2024 and the World Indigenous Business Forum that will take place in October 2024.

Our FY25 goals include the continuation of our collaboration with both local and international partnerships to enhance Albuquerque’s appeal to international businesses and tourism. We will establish new international collaborations, particularly with Guadalajara and Mexico City, and leverage our Albuquerque Sister Cities relationship with the New Mexico Trade Alliance to bolster sectors like aerospace, film and digital media, international commerce, tourism, and culture. These efforts will further promote international trade and foster economic growth within our community. Some highlights of our continued international efforts include:

Partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center, New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, New Mexico Economic Development Department, and the City of Albuquerque, to bring in the first-ever Latinx Games to Albuquerque in September 2024.

Plans to bring a Mariachi ensemble from Guadalajara to perform a collaboration with our New Mexico Philharmonic group, providing visibility to the diverse cultures of these two distinctive musical genres, in 2025.

The Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce C&T department and its supporting International Trade Committee have a clear focus on promoting international trade, cultural exchange, and tourism in Albuquerque, New Mexico. By prioritizing strategic partnerships, market research, education and training, and promotional efforts, the Chamber will continue to foster economic growth and cultural understanding between Albuquerque and key international markets.
